The Cook Labor Government has today released a Request for Tender seeking a suitable builder for the Perth Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation.

It will be able to accommodate up to 100 guests and will be comprised of universal access, family, double and single units.
Contractors shortlisted from the Department of Communities' Housing Construction and Refurbishment Builders Panel will be invited to submit a tender for the construction of the Perth Short Stay.
There are currently three other Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodations operating in Kalgoorlie, Derby and Broome. The Geraldton Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation is currently under construction by local Geraldton builder, GBSC Yurra.
The RFT for the Construction Head Contractor will be open until March 2025 and can be accessed at: https://www.tenders.wa.gov.au/
Comments attributed to Housing and Homelessness Minister John Carey:
"Western Australia's existing Aboriginal Short Stays have been critical in improving outcomes for Aboriginal people in the regions by providing a safe and secure place to stay.
"We're now calling for a suitable builder to construct the Perth Short Stay in Cannington, which will be WA's fifth short-stay facility and will be able to accommodate up to 100 guests.
"I encourage contractors and builders shortlisted on the Department of Communities' Housing Construction and Refurbishment Builders Panel to submit a tender for construction for this important project.
"The establishment of new Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation services in Perth and Geraldton will ensure safe, culturally considered short-term accommodation is available to support Aboriginal visitors from regional, remote and metropolitan areas to reduce rough sleeping and overcrowding."
Comments attributed to Aboriginal Affairs Minister Dr Tony Buti:
"This is an important step forward to realising the Perth Aboriginal Short Stay project, with the release of a Request for Tender for this new short-stay facility.
"The Cook Labor Government understands how important Aboriginal Short Stays are in providing important and welcoming accommodation options for guests who may otherwise have no accommodation during their visits.
"Aboriginal Short Stays
may also keep families and groups travelling together, whether that's for
cultural reasons, business reasons or for accessing services, reducing pressure
that may be placed upon families and households."
Comments attributed to Cannington MLA Bill Johnston:
"It's fantastic that a Request for Tender has today been released to build the Perth Short Stay in Cannington, which is a great location for this much-needed facility.
"I'm very proud we will be able to provide culturally appropriate accommodation right here in Cannington once the Perth Aboriginal Short Stay has been constructed.
"I understand there's been extensive local consultation undertaken by the appointed architects with Traditional Owners and the local community to ensure the best possible facility can be delivered."
